Pholc Mobil

A few weeks ago I introduced you to Pholc  ( find the blogpost here ), a relatively new brand in Sweden that has made quite a lot of waves. A favorite design of mine, the Mobil series which includes the beautiful five arms pendant that everyone loves that hangs in my bedroom .  In the same series there are a pendant with 3 arms, 2 wall versions ( a tall and a short one) and a table version. The now very recognisable design with the curve wall tall version called Mobil 150 Wall can be seen in my home office space, right next to the beautiful big window. Scroll down and you will see how the shape changes depending of the angle you look at it, the signature curve can be seen so easily on the side, while if you look at it up front it looks completely straight!

The designer created the series having in mind that they should easily adorn a New York loft, and while tall ceilings a big windows accentuate the design itself, I can still see it in a shorter height home, even a country house. For me this is where a design goes from just trending, to becoming a classic, when you can see it fitting just as well in a contemporary loft to a classic country house.

Oh , and a piece of advice? Hide all the wires behind a poster on the foot of any lamp, as you see , this is exactly my solution here as well.

Fredericia : Trinidad – An Icon for Living

June 20, 2018

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Nanna Ditzel’s iconic Trinidad chair, Fredericia relaunched the iconic chair in a selection of new shades, enhancing the natural beauty of the materials in a contemporary manner.

Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) is one of the most significant figures of Danish design heritage. She is best known for her uncompromising approach to quality, playful shapes and a magnificent ability to transform her artistic dreams into very functional and sophisticated designs. With Trinidad, Nanna Ditzel turned the modernist mantra of material reduction against its original intent. The cut-out fretwork of the curved shells not only lightens the visual density of the chair, but it also functions as a decorative element. Inspired by her travels, Nanna Ditzel designed the Trinidad chair combining signature detailing with effortless elegance, while always aiming for great comfort and a sleek appearance. Nanna, on the inspiration behind the design said :

“On Trinidad I saw how the facades of the houses nearly dissolves in light and shadow – almost like a lace – and I thought to myself: How can I use this for a chair?”

Like a Gingerbread facade, the Trinidad Chair gently plays with the sunlight, creating a sense of motion in the space. The lightweight design embraces the body and is designed to suit not only the setting, but also the person that sits on it. The precise transparency of the Trinidad chair almost dissolves in a play of light and shadow, yet at the same time gives the chair a strikingly bold voice. The new editions are available in smoked, grey and light grey oak leaving the veneer with a visible wooden structure.

Inspired by the design I am also trying to use the chair accordingly. While its elegance stands out in both light and shadow, I am trying to place it in my space in a way that the light will always pass through it various times of the day thus creating a playful pattern on the floor. I also chose one of the new colours, light grey oak with black legs, so it fits my tone on tone styling in the bedroom/home office, although an all black would have looked great as well! Scroll down for more photos of the beautiful Trinidad chair, how do you like it in my space?

Todays office and painting plans

January 7, 2018

I am finally back at Oslo and I put myself to work immediately. One of the first things to cross from my list for 2018 is to finally paint the apartment, especially since I have had a wine accident spill on the bedroom walls and everywhere it hit on the wall is now a color purple. Nothing that a little bit of paint wont easily fix! I have decided a long time ago which color to go for when it comes to the living room, but the bedroom is proving quite hard to decide. In reality I love the white walls, not because of any trends, but because I have always prefered my bedroom specifically to be white. It was really nice for a year where I had it grey in the previous house ( see here or here ), but the floors were completely white so it paired well.  For now I was thinking of going the way of a deep ecru/beige or off white, all this depending on how dark I want the walls to be. I would love to do a dark blue or minerals, but, when it comes to really dark colors I know I will want to change it 2 months , while I am doing mineral walls in the living room so I don’t want it to be too similar. To be completely honest I think I have decided on color Space ( from Lady Jotun as seen here code 10678) , a classic light beige color .  If I find I miss white too much , then I can certainly repaint 😉 Also another trick, I think I will not paint all the way up , probably I will stop in the middle of the windows closer to the top though. The results will be in Tuesday or Wednesday so stay tuned!

Small office in the bedroom

December 12, 2017

Advertisement // Sponsored post in collaboration with Skagerak.

Moving in the apartment from a big house, there are always some compromises that have to be made when it comes to space. I ended up clearing up a lot of things ( which I did gladly however), but until now there was something I have been missing, a small space to work at in the mornings. I used the kitchen table as my office until now ( you can see it here ) and even though I will still use it as well, I decided it was time I created a small office nook in the bedroom for myself. Since I dont have a lot of space and I didnt want to fill the whole bedroom with a big table, I chose the Georg desk from Skagerak , which is quite petite but at the same time due to its design, it is quite spacious. The Georg Jubilee Stool created for the celebration of Skagerak’s 40th anniversary was my choice for sitting while working ( equipped with a rare cushion made of aniline leather from the Swedish tannery Tärnsjö ). Situated next to one of the big bedroom windows the cozy office space has plenty of light all day, perfect for working! With a few posters, candles and my favorite table lamp, I think for now it looks very inviting! The Georg Desk also comes with additional drawers if needed though, and while I love the clean cut lines as it is, you might see this addition shortly, they are perfect for storing small things that otherwise would clutter the desk.
