Heem – Design Studio in Bergen

October 16, 2018

Heem is a design studio in Bergen, focusing on subtle minimalism in the fields between interior architecture and concept styling.  Cathrine Bækken, the interior Architect behind Heem, is one to watch out for. Her style is very close to mine, which is why I am so attracted to the photos as well, minimal with a contemporary touch, and neither feminine neither masculine. I chose today to showcase some of the photos from her own home, but also some of her work for clients. Both styling however and beautiful photography by Dag Randen results in creating a beautiful window into the creative world of Bergen, one that I personally welcome happily. Stunning Apartment in Copenhagen

September 8, 2018

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon this stunning apartment in Copenhagen, designed by Natalie Dubrovska. From the classic details, the environment, the beautiful design and the view of the city, this apartment has it all. Below you can find various aspects of the bedroom and the bathroom, yet I could not find photos of the kitchen or living room. I can imagine however this apartment not having either, mostly because some can be very small and the bedroom can serve as a living room easily. As for a kitchen, one of the most amazing Architects Zaha Hadid, very famously did not have a kitchen in her own home, only a small concealed fridge. She found that she always ate out, regardless of the time of the day, so she had no need for one at all. I can see how a very busy man or woman wouldn’t either for the same reason, so it is not quite so unbelievable that this apartment has none. But it also looks like this home is a suite, so it could of course be part of a larger home ( after all the project is supposed to be 150sqm) , so this could be the guest room. In this case, who do I need to befriend and where do I sign my name on for?

Is the white on white apartment coming back?

September 1, 2018

I recently saw an apartment that I think is the epitome of white on white without it being too much white. Not all rooms are the same theme though, so the white on white theme can only be seen in the kitchen and the main living area. There are black rooms, blue accents and quite a lot of contrasting elements, however I think the white space is the one that stands out the most. And really, even though I am personally tired of so much monochrome absence of color ( I am going through my beige period now), I have to admit this one is quite spectacular. Scroll below for more photos, and if you want to see the rest of the apartment you can find it here.

I am keeping it short today and letting the photos do the talk!

Peek Inside a Sophisticated Copenhagen Townhouse by Talented Norwegian Architect Danielle Siggerud

August 3, 2018

Lately I have been following the works of the talented Norwegian Architect Danielle Siggerud, starting from her house in Copenhagen Denmark. As per her own words, the house in located on Holmen, a water-bound neighborhood in Copenhagen, occupying the former grounds of the Royal Naval Base and Dockyards. The project reflects strong architectural sensitivity, making use of both modern and existing elements. Essence, abstraction and purity have been the leitmotif of this home. A limited array of colors and the combination of rough beams with the smooth surface of natural stone creates a rugged but elegant atmosphere. With tactility of the materials and through careful detailing, we formed a comfortable house that encapsulated the essence of living. The rigor of the design in combination with the sensual language, respecting the existing architectural elements, has been the key to the success of this architecture.

What I personally love is the overall feeling one gets just by looking at this  beautiful house, the colors and the surfaces are soft but quite characteristic, while the choice of furniture and materials is an ode to comfortable yet stylish contemporary living. Scroll below to see some snippets of the beautiful MD residence, I would move in a minutes notice. And if you are wondering if this is how the house probably looks? In my experience, if you like it this way, you keep it this way, maybe theres a magazine extra here and there, maybe there is a cup of coffee somewhere, generally this is not hard to maintain 😉
