( In collaboration with Ellos and to celebrate finishing the renovation of the bedroom I am hosting a giveaway for 3000NOK each with two winners. More information and how to enter at the end of this post).
This week I finally put the finishing touches to the bedroom and today I am happy to share the final result along with some before and after pictures. Here is what the bedroom looked like before I started the renovation, dark laminated floors, brown walls, a questionable choice of brown wallpaper and brown furniture. I originally only painted the walls about a year ago but I wasn’t very happy with the result so I decided to commit to giving it a proper facelift this time around. With the help of a lot of paint, some tools and some choice selections from Ellos I created a look that is very representative of my style. Read on below to find out how I changed the look of the bedroom with minimal effort and on a good budget!
First of all I build a fake shelf under the window ( before photo of the same view as the photo above ) using wooden panels that I later painted on the exact color as the wall so the box would blend in and become part of the room. The box serves both as a shelf but also as a headrest for the bed that was moved under the window. I threw all the old furniture (expect for the bed that was new) and painted the walls a soft grey and the floors along with the lists I painted white. ( The painting process took about a week since I have to wait between layers of paint to dry. There are many floor paints out now that do not require sanding the floors first, so I recommend painting the floors heartily).
After the floor was dry I moved in the bed. As can be seen here the bed was also brown so I decided to cover it completely with linens for a softer look. I used a simple white linen bed gown and an extra linen sheet from Ellos to drape over the bed ( the bed is in layers so I decided it was best to also dress it in layers for a more uniform look). In this way there is no need to change the bed to change its look, and when I want a different color combination than white I can simply change the bed gown. Next step was to hang a white linen canopy above the bed ( the exact same one I used can be found here). After the canopy was set, I dressed the bed with new linens ( I used these ones in a beautiful beige color), brought in a chair and a marble side table , and added some details in the form of plants, books and a mirror to complete the look. I always have an extra blanket on the bed during winter, this linen one can also double as a carpet ( you can see how I used it in this post in my living room)!
Tip :: I also painted the pots in the same color of the wall so they would blend in! Try it not only when you want to make your pots blend seamlessly with the room like I did but also if you are just tired of their color!
