15 Absolute Travel Essentials

February 2, 2019

Monday I will be flying to Stockholm for this years Furniture and Light fair and a propos I thought I would share a few of my travel essentials. I own some of the items above, some are in my wishlist (I own something similar but I would love to upgrade). This is not everything I take with me when I travel, beauty essentials have their own category in my mind as do clothes and I am not including things that are self explanatory like passport, keys, credit cards etc

Shall we?

1 :: Organic Tote bag | A perfect tote for everyday shopping. I usually carry a small shoulder bag for essentials, then have a cotton tote on my shoulder if I know I will need it, or I am already carrying things. This one from the Korean brand Depound is my absolute favorite because of its design it is so comfortable and sizable and it comes in the best colors, of course they do ship internationally. The store carries all sorts of organic accessories, do give it a look!

2 :: Wireless Headphones | Noise cancellation too if possible. I own exactly this pair of H9i from Bang Olufsen and I recommend then heartily.

3 :: Card holder | I got tipped about this slim cardholder from Supr. from a friend and I am about to get one for myself, small but very versatile it seems perfect for carrying business cards or credit cards.

4 :: Check in Luggage | For years Rimowa dominated the market when it came to aluminum luggages, so when Away released their very popular model in aluminum too I immediately put it on top of my wishlist. Considering it costs more than half the price of an equivalent Rimowa it is a no brainer if you are on a budget. While I have never seen Rimowa having any discounts, Away does release some codes so next time I am finally getting one.

5 :: Packing cubes | Speaking of luggages, while you can always Marie Konto your clothes directly in the luggage, I find that putting them in packing cubes is even better. Coincidentally the ones from Away are or me the best, with many color options and packs of 4 or 6. My favorite color is Sand.

6 :: Travel Perfume | This one is on you, from solid perfumes to liquid perfumes or even roll on, the choices are too many to go into detail. I usually bring with me a small Byredo bottle and a solid perfume from Diptyque.Click on the links for my scents.

7 :: Shoulder bag | Oslo based Cala Jade makes amazing shoulder bags, Ibis in camel is one of my favorites .(right now 50% off plus if you register another 10% off for a total of 60% off!)

8 :: Pillow Spray | Sometimes hotel pillows have a weird detergent scent for me, maybe I am too sensitive but this Ren Pillow spray always does the trick.

9 :: Aesop travelling essentials | Speaking of Rimowa, they recently had a great collaboration with Aesop that resulted in a super beautiful travel case and few of the best Aesop small sized products. Even with its pricey tag ( 350euro ) it sold out almost immediately. Dont worry though, my favorite travel kit Vienna is still available and it carries all the essentials you need precisely plus it comes in its own little reusable bag.

10 :: Wireless Speaker | Regardless if you are taking with you any kind of earphones, I recommend packing a wireless small speaker as well ( I own the Bang Olufsen P2 but the A1 while it sounds similar has almost triple its battery). Listening to music when in the hotel room is my go to entertainment,I really dont know why hotels bother having TVs on the wall anymore, I honestly dont remember the last time I even turned one on. Between iphones, ipads, macbooks, kindle, I have all the entertainment I need. I usually either listen to music, or put make up on or fall asleep to Netflix. If I am on vacation and not on a work trip I will definitely get a lot of use from my Kindle as well.

11 :: Travel Pillow | Of all the travel pillows, this is the one you will ever need. I discovered them through their kickstarter but now the Huzi infinity pillow is available and you should get it.

12 :: Camera | I never go anywhere almost without my trusty Pen F Olympus camera, and I wish I was getting some sort of commission because the amount of people that have bought it after my recommendation is staggering. I think its the best small camera out there however so if you can afford it you will never regret it.

13 :: Camera strap | While walking in the streets of Zürich almost two years ago I run into a small camera shop to hide from the rain. I noticed the most beautiful handmade silk camera straps and I bought one in black on impulse. While pricey it turned out to be one of the best decisions as it is the sturdiest yet softest strap that exists. Made from an artisan japanese team called Artisan and Artist, you can find some of their products on amazon, along with my silk black strap. Incidentally I have been using it for two years relentlessly and it looks like new.

14 :: Phone charger cable | I cannot count the times that for some reason plugs are in very inconvenient place in hotel rooms. I solve this problem with a charger cable of 3 meters, and this one from Native Union not only comes in beautiful colors but also with a small weight so it stays in place.

15 :: Mini Candles | Especially when I travel for work, I always bring with me a mini candle with a relaxing scent to fill the room when I am trying to rest after a full day, try it, it works wonders!

My favorites and gift ideas from Høie

December 2, 2018

Ad // Campaign For Hoie of Scandinavia

Today I am sharing a few ideas for presents from Høie for either your loved ones or yourselves. I have been so impressed by the quality of these Norwegian made products, and the ethos of the company ( I talk more about that here) , and with competitive prices I think they make for great gift. Høie has just opened their Swedish webstore at www.hoie.com/se (soon in Denmark too) and have given me 20% off to share with you, just use code “Onlydecolove” after you are done shopping. I am sure you can find many options you will love but here are few of my favorite combinations!

1 :: As seen in my bedroom recently, Cecilie is on top of my favorites. Mine is in Ivory but there are many colors to choose from. The feel of these sheets is so great , the extra fine cotton has a curling effect which means the fabric retracts and gives a natural relaxed expression. It also makes it feel thicker than plain cotton. In addition, the bed set is stone washed for extra softness. I combined Celilie with the Vanja velvet pillowcases, again many colors to choose from but I went for a combo of Blue and Okra. Velvet on one side, cotton on the other, I turn them on the cotton side to sleep then flip them in the morning for the velvet to show. This way both the velvet side will last longer and look clean, but also I get to enjoy sleeping on the cotton side. No need to change the pillows , these are not just for show! For a final touch, I added a woolen blanket in a  light pattern, find it here.

For duvets and pillows I recommend the Saga series ( find my duvet here and my pillows here). Warm and soft yet crisp and airy ( plus Allergy-friendly recommended Asthma Allergy Nordic), I consider them the best duvets I have ever used. All Høie duvets have the Swan label ( Svanemerket) . The Swan label places strict demands on the entire product life cycle and is your guarantee of reduced climate stress, sustainable use of resources and a non-toxic everyday life. It’s good for the environment and your health!

2 :: For my second option, I recommend something that you might not expect to find in a contemporary bedroom, Høie Satin sheets. It is probably because people believe satin does not photograph so well (not ture), that we dont see it as often in editorials, I myself decided to use it in the 4 stylings we did for the winning bedroom back in september (see it here) and I think it looked fantastic. Why sleep in satin sheets? Satin supports healthy skin and hair while we sleep. It boosts your beauty game more than more traditional bedding materials because while other materials may tug at your hair follicles and strip your skin of natural, important oils, satin provides a smooth sleep surface. Skin and hair gently glide across as you catch sleep, reducing friction and leaving your skin and hair hydrated. This is key in helping to reduce bedhead, hair breakage, fine lines and wrinkles and dull, dry skin.  Try sleeping with just a satin pillowcase and you will see the difference in the first night only. Combine your satin combo with extra satin pillowcases from Høie in white (or buy them individually), or choose any other color. I prefer white for extra pillowcases so I can use them in any color or material combo. As for a blanket recommendation, I would choose one from the Rondeslottet series, with colors inspired by the natural landscape.

Remember now you also have an extra 20% off using the code  “Onlydecolove” after you are done shopping, and if you shop now you will get them guaranteed before Christmas!

Sick Day Essentials

November 11, 2018

This week I have been so much under the weather, it has been almost impossible to work or concentrate. Usually I would get some sick days off, but as freelance I have been working and resting accordingly. Really mostly resting and sleeping, due to intense coughing and the headache that comes with it sometimes all I can do these days is lie in bed and try and take it easy. Thankfully I can work right from home where I can have all the pumpering I need, something that really helps me feel a little better. Regardless of if you are under the weather like me, maybe this list will give you ideas of how to pamper yourself through the flu or have a relaxing weekend, for me these are essentials not just for a few rough days but for the whole winter.

For more pampering ideas check the ideas Elisabeth Heier is suggesting for a Wellness Weekend . One of the most important things I forgot to include on the list, catch up on your best friends blogs and any other on your list <3

:: 1.  Comfortable Sleepwear || The simple oatmeal linen long shirt as seen above has been my go to sleepwear especially now I am sick. Jennifer Hagler from A Merry Mishap blog, is the co creator of this fabulous garment with The Sleep Shirt company, and you can find it here.

:: 2.  To help you Sleep || Zara recently launched a Cashmere capsule collection for fall, and among others I found some of the accessories very useful. The eye mask made of 100% cashmere feels really good against the skin, and it really helps with sleeping during anytime of the day uninterrupted by daylight. I also bought a handy toiletry bag (again 100% cashmere), for next to bed essentials, mainly to hide the packets of paracetamol and coughing tablets.

:: 3.  Natural Pain Reliever || From cramps to neck pains, a warm water bottle has always been one of the first things I grab when looking for immediate relief before reaching for the painkillers. This pillow/warmer is a cross between all the benefits of a water bottle and a soft pillow.  The pillow stuffing consists of clay beads and the cover is made of flax and cotton, just pop it in the microwave and wrap it around you or lay your head on top of it. I love it. From Meraki, if you are in Norway find it here.

:: 4.  Healthy shots of hydration || Keeping hydrated is essential and with coughing my need for tea more than quadruples. Favorite teas from A.C. Perch’s TheHandel , the variety is remarkable, try White Mulberry tea for a remarkable experience (the tins can be found in store or online, they carry a huge selection of sizes and colors all with the distinct logo). Ceramic mugs from Kinto (I keep adding to my collection). Just add in any tea a little bit of honey ( try the organic Wildflower Honey from ILA , raw, cold-processed honey comes from the Finger Lakes region of New York. Collected from fields of wildflowers ), and add some fresh ginger juice. This has been my saviour this week.

:: 5.  Keep Warm and Cozy || This is a no brainer, of course you need a cardigan. Last year I bought a mohair Kimono sleeve style from Acne and it is my go to wear inside the house during winter anyday. Favorite blanket for keeping feet warm made by 100% Merino wool, the APT blanket from Teixidors. For good measure put some leg warmers on, if nothing else, feeling like a ballerina while sick will only lift your spirits.

:: 6.  Aroma for the soul || I burn candles for the calming smell but also to bring warmth (coziness) into the room. Mad et Len Petit Papiers  is made in France, sweet, warm, and resinous, it is inspired by Papiers d’Armenie, benzoin-coated incense papers that took France by storm in the late 19th century. I found mine in Stockholm but I am sure there are various online stores that it can be ordered from.

:: 7.  Pampering || There is nothing worse than feeling sweaty while being sick, it is something that will bring me even more down. Especially since we tend to sweat a lot, showers and keeping fresh are essential. Hair shampoo and conditioner by Noir Stockholm , it smells amazing and my hair have never felt softer. Since I am spending so many hours in bed, a face mask is also essential. My favorite from Danish Jorgobe with black kaolin clay that absorbs excess sebum and cleanses clogged pores.

:: 8.  Reading  || From favorite blogs, to magazines, to new or old unfinished books, I find myself always attracted to cooking books when sick. Possibly because I feel my taste buds are failing me, I tend to eat with my eyes. The Nordic Baking book covers traditional cuisine from the entire Nordic region, from Greenland to Finland and everywhere in between. An absolute must if you wish to understand Nordic cuisine!

Novembers Wishlist

October 30, 2018

This months wishlist only features items that I have wanted for a little while now and I cant wait to get them. Truly a list of “want to have asap” rather than “a girl can dream”, which is why I kept it short. These are my must haves (from the side of luxury) for this month :

:: 1.  Beauty || Anne Manns jewelry embodies a strong, feminine statement originating from the love of interaction between jewelry, clothes and their wearer. From her Pea collection, the Eila earpiece stands out as one of my favorites. Either in gold or silver, I honestly would love to have both.

:: 2.  Reading || Yes please. The new Cereal magazine is out, along with the famous Cereal city guides in 2018 edition. Dont miss any of those.

:: 3.  Shopping || I need a bag for winter, to carry my macbook when I need to for meetings or when working outside of the house, for travelling but also for just shopping in the city. The Lady bag from Mansur Gavriel is perfect and the price very reasonable.

:: 4.  Vanity || Well this is not necessary at all, but I just found out that my favorite scent from Diptyque is now launched as a solid perfume and I cannot resist it. Early Christmas present for myself?

:: 5.  For the house || Almost a work of art from the new collection of Ferm Living, the Alza bowls in marble. Black or white, my house needs them.
