Porcelænsfabrikken Danmark – Lyngby Porcelæn was established in 1936 in Kgs. Lyngby, north of Copenhagen, as a manufacturer of porcelain service sets, vases and other designer pieces of high craftsmanship and technical quality. When the factory closed in 1969 it already held an established place in Danish design history with its unique and distinctive designs, many of which live on today. In 2012, Lyngby Porcelæn re-opened and is today behind the re-release of iconic designs that are reproduced with the greatest care and respect for the factory’s noble design heritage.
Some of my favourites include their signature iconic vases , The Lyngby Vase, designed originally in 1936( as seen in the photo above in grey), and a fun reinterpretation of it for 2018 with the addition of running glaze. The surface is a combination of glossy and very matt-glazed ceramic(something I love ), and it comes in one size 20cm in 3 colors : White (as seen on my table), Black and Rose. The new experimental technique makes for a fresh take on the design, and since it’s handmade, every vase is unique and the glazing varies. Iconic but with a twist!
Another favorite of mine,Perfect for festive days , but also for any other time of the year, the beautiful Chapeau bonbonniere as seen below. I have quite the selection in my apartment, the all new completely clear in glass and the classic favorite in big size and color mat camel are my newest additions! Use them for holiday candy, hide away bits and bobs ( usually I have tea lights in the big and dark chocolate covered raspberries in the small). Need even more uses other than elegant storage ? Use them to serve ice cream or any of our favorite desert, fill them with water and add flowers for an impromptu vase! So many amazing possibilities for these little pieces of art! And speaking of filling bonbonnieres with flowers…
While above I highlighted some of my favorite designs, there is something else that Lyngby Porcelain produces that I really love to use and style. I am of course talking about their Rhombe collection, that includes tableware but also tea and coffee set , vases , candleholders and last but not least a beautiful range of balls and bells for Christmas! Clear clean lines, chic white porcelain and patterns from the archives. The Rhombe frame is truly a tribute to the classic frame. The line is perfect for dinner with a full dinnerware set of course, but it also works great for coffee and tea! It also includes a sugar bowl with lid and tea light holders, candleholders, plus vases ( see the whole selection here ).
One of best styling tips for a romantic afternoon, or a coffee with your best friends, is to place flowers not only in vases, but instead take the tops off, fill the smaller Rhomble bowls with water and then gently let them drop and fill the rest of the bowl!
