Oslo Bedroom : Final look

February 2, 2018

Most of the times when we see a before and after we expect the before to look quite terrible. In this case I think after the redo the bedroom looks so much more beautiful, but it still looked great before, it just needed a little love. Here you can see how it looked before ( or here very recently and here ), there was nothing inherently bad about it, it was just all white and since the room is so tall, it felt incomplete. A few months ago I attended the Jotun Lady press event where the new colors and trends were discussed, and during an impromptu interview where I was asked which new color was my favorite, I answered with color Space. I fell in love with Jotun Ladys new beige palette and as soon as I knew what I wanted to do with the bedroom it took me roughly a week to finish up the look. I will be making another post tomorrow with more photos of the process, but today I wanted to share colors and the direction I took with the room. Keep reading for all the details!

You can see how the office corner looked before here, do you notice something different ( aside from the different styling) ? The first thing that should jump out is the fact that the lists ( or skirting boards) are now quite bigger. This was the cornerstone of the transformation and the idea that started everything. The room , as explained above, is quite tall, and while it is amazing to have tall ceilings , it can leave the room feeling too empty. Filling it up with items is not a good solution, it will end up looking messy. One of the best ways to balance the height is to create the illusion of layers, the eye will stop automatically on each layer while the room will still feel airy due to the natural height.

I chose to create bigger lists by adding a small board 30cm above the previous one, nailed it to the wall and painted the old lists the new board and the wall in between the same color ( tomorrow I will share more of how I created the new lists!). This creates the illusion of a single but quite bigger list, it gives the room an added desired layer while it brings a palatial feel. I also painted the windows the same color to give a sense of continuity, but also because darker windows appeal to me quite a lot lately. The color used for both lists and windows is Space 10678 from Jotun Lady, Supreme Finish Mat for wood and panels. I also decided to not paint all the way up, leaving a ribbon on the top in the previous color  that matched the ceiling ( white ). The wall I painted in a light beige/grey, color code Sommersne 1928 also from Jotun Lady, Pure color , supermat. The color is described as not quite beige, not quite grey, and it was exactly what I was looking for.  I was debating whether to paint the whole space the same color along with windows and lists , but I decided against. I really wanted for there to be layers and introduce interesting transitions. Executed this way I achieved exactly what I wanted, and the two colors Space and Sommersne fit perfectly together!

So what do you think? You like it better before or after?

Sponsored post in collaboration with Jotun Lady. The colors were chosen by me.

Some of the furniture are loaned from Kollekted by with my thanks.

Flowers from Wintherblomst with my thanks.

Absolutely perfect. The colors on windows and panels, the high lists and the greige walls combined with white ceiling and bright floor look stunning. Such great job Katerina!

Thank you Kasia! I am so so happy it turned out as it was in my mind, colors are so tricky and going away from my beloved white was a step towards unknown haha Not to mention I really felt weird painting the windows something other than white, I would do it in a heartbeat for a client because I know it looks great, but for myself it felt like such a big deal! Just glad I did it and even more glad people like it!

I haven’t been inspired in awhile! This is beautiful and so simple yet so imptactful. Do you mind telling me the brand of the brass details? I believe there are hooks and a picture holder above the desk? Thank you so much!

Hello 🙂 Thank you so much, I have had this idea since I moved it but with this and that it took me a few months before I implemented it. And I should have done it earlier , it took me less than a week from start to finish! Lesson learned , now I will tackle the living room! The brass details are from Skagerak, you are correct, the shelve is a picture holder called Reflect shelf, and yes those are hooks on the walls , same collection, Reflect Hook Double! Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you! It was a little bit hard to pick up the brush and paint the windows specifically, I am just so glad it turned out exactly how I had it in my head!

    Hi Katerina!
What a beautiful combination! I often come back to this room for inspiration and now I have decided to paint the walls with Sommersne and will actually paint a closet in Space! What is the name of the white color you have used?
