Just a few weeks shy away from Christmas and I am already trying to find ways to decorate a whole house starting from nothing. It’s amazing what a few Happy Lights paired with hyacinths and paper stars can do.
These are the second Christmas I am spending in Norway but I can’t count the first since I only visited for the holidays. As such I have no Christmas decorations and I am starting from scratch. There is a challenge over at NIB that calls for Christmas spirit and will be my contribution. You can see the rest of the entries here! However since I haven’t shopped yet I came to the conclusion I needed to use what I already had. This is a more contemporary Christmas look but it suits our house. I used lights that I already own ( Happy lights come in various shapes and colors ), an old IKEA iron and rubber black tree, planted some hyacinths in one of my favorite Arne Jacobsen mugs and filled an old library with wood and blankets. For the final touch I cut out some paper stars and hung to the wall. The corner is magically already transformed and I am so happy with the initial result!
I also decided to transform this corner into a reading nook using one of our lounge chairs.
It’s by the fireplace which during winter is always lit for warmth and coziness. Eventually in a few months we will be buying a chaise lounge for this purpose and a side table for all those hot chocolates. I am thinking a simple chaise lounge and a contemporary side table.

Hope you have a lovely weekend full with Christmas decorations!
